The Course
9 holes of parkland golf on the shores of Upper Lough MacNean
Course Overview
Designed by Eddie Hackett in 1962, The Usual Please is a parkland layout that plays as a full 18-hole round using different tees and 10 greens.
Despite its modest length of 6,385 yards (5,839 metres), the course demands thoughtful, tactical golf throughout. Subtle undulations, a prevailing south-westerly wind, and the strategic influence of Upper Lough MacNean mean that every score here is hard earned — and all the more satisfying for it.
The course is open daily from 8am to 8pm and welcomes visitors seven days a week.

Designed by a Legend
Eddie Hackett
1910–1996
Ireland's most celebrated golf course architect
Eddie Hackett is considered the founding father of Irish golf course design — responsible for some of the country's most beloved tracks.
Hackett's philosophy was rooted in working with the natural landscape rather than against it. He understood that good golf doesn't require extravagance — it requires the right routing, the right challenges, and an honest relationship with the land.
At The Usual Please, he created a course that is deceptively challenging despite its modest length. The routing takes full advantage of the lakeshore setting, the natural undulations of the ground, and the exposure to the elements.
Designed in 1962, The Usual Please stands today as a testament to Hackett's timeless approach to golf course architecture — and has been a favourite with local members and visiting golfers ever since.
Course Highlights
What to look forward to on your round
The Lake Hole
One of the most dramatic par-3s in Connacht — a hole that juts out towards Upper Lough MacNean with water hazards defining the challenge. It has been described as providing "a dash of the different."
Two Rounds in One
The 9-hole layout cleverly plays as 18 holes using different tees and 10 greens — giving you a genuinely varied experience across both loops. No two holes feel the same from alternate tees.
A True Test
The south-westerly wind is a constant companion at The Usual Please. Club selection is everything here. The course rewards strategic thinking over power — placing a premium on good shot-making throughout.
